Hi Everyone, here are instructions on setting up the HSC VPN. Essentially, this turns your computer, when off campus into a library computer (minus uptodate access).  That means you can watch videos that are only viewable on campus and access a few other resources that are important in phase 2.

Instructions for iPad/iPhone
  1. Go into Settings
  2. Select the General tab from the left menu
  3. Select VPN from the second group of items (just above iTunes Wi-Fi Sync)
  4. Tap on "Add VPN Configuration"
  5. Select IPSec, then fill in the server information, group name and secret from the info on the front page of SMRT-point. Your account is your HSC ID and it'll ask you for your password every time whether you want it to or not. Description can be anything you want, like "HSC VPN"
  6. After saving, you'll notice a new option for turning on the VPN from the left menu just under Bluetooth or Cellular Data. Flip that switch to turn on VPN on your iPad/iPhone.

Instructions for Mac running Snow Leopard or later
  1. Go into system preferences
  2. Click Network
  3. Click the plus sign in the bottom left corner of the window
  4. Click Interface and choose VPN.  Then choose Cisco IPSec under VPN type. Name it HSC VPN and click create.
  5. The information for server address and the settings under Authentication settings can be found on the front page of SMRT-point.  For Account Name and Password, insert your groupwise id and password.
  6. Click Show VPN status in menu bar
  7. Click Apply.

You now have an icon in the menu bar at the top of your computer that looks like a car grill.  You can click this and connect to HSC VPN any time and you will be connected.

Instructions for Older Macs or Windows PCs (follow carefully)

  1. Click Here.
  2. Input your Groupwise information.
  3. Download the appropriate VPN client. (Most of you will be running the 64 bit windows version or Mac.  If you have questions about this, email us)
  4. Download the "New VPN Profile" from the same page (right click and select "save as" or "save file" or "Download linked file as" and save to somewhere you can find it easily).
  5. Run the VPN client program, click "Import," and select the "New VPN Profile" you downloaded in step 4 (after everything is done, you can delete the VPN profile).
  6. It will now prompt you for your Groupwise login information
  7. Hopefully, at this point the bottom of the VPN client program will say "Connected to HSC-Network." if not, restart your computer and run the VPN client again and click connect.
  8. In the VPN client program, right click "HSC-Network..." under the "Connection Entry" section, and select the "Set as Default..." option.
  9. Finally, click the connect button whenever you need access and go access MEDS.  When you are done, make sure to disconnect or all of your internet traffic will be running through the HSC internet.

Ask us if anything goes wrong.  We can help you out.
